炭鄉八八是主人的故居，為使老家能有新的生命，在整修後轉經營民宿提供服務，正如同大門的對聯「頭擺（從前）讀書耕園 呀下（現今）交朋宿客」。入口的紅磚牆是幼時成長的記憶，磚牆前的龍眼樹見證每個孩子的頑皮。
